JAMMU, Feb 17: A delegation of Jammu Newspaper Editors Association (JNEA) today met Director Information J&K to discuss the issues faced by the media industry.
The delegation presented a memorandum to the Director Information J&K Nitish Rajora and raised the issues of rising operational costs and declining advertising revenue. They urged the Director Information J&K for a more conducive regulatory environment to support the growth and sustainability of print media outlets and revision of advertisement rate. They told that increasing the advertisement ratio from 1:3 to at least 1:7 will have a positive impact on efforts to promote Government initiatives and communicate effectively with the public.
They also spoke about the revision of advertisement rate issued by Department of Information & Public Relations. They said that the advertisement rate was revised way back in 2017 and subsequently significant increase was observed but the rate was kept same from the last 8 years till now. They further said that the print media is facing increased operational costs. The cost of raw materials, ink, newsprint, labour and distribution has increased significantly, making it challenging for print media outlets to maintain profitability.
The Director information patiently listened to their issues and assured the delegation that the Government would carefully consider their concerns and work towards finding solutions to address the challenges faced by the print media industry.
Those present included Adarsh Pal Gupta, Ravinder Singh, Rajesh Dutta, Ajay Kumar, Manoj Kumar, Jamshed Akhter, Satish Mahajan and Rahul Sharma.
