JAMMU, Feb 8: In an effort to elevate the academic standards of its MBBS students, Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu has introduced a new initiative by organizing an educational tour to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh. The tour took place from February 3 to February 6, marking a significant shift from traditional leisure tours to academic excursions aimed at providing students with advanced learning experiences.
The initiative was officially inaugurated by Dr Ashutosh Gupta, Principal and Dean of GMC Jammu. Dr Gupta, a distinguished alumnus of PGIMER Chandigarh, played a key role in coordinating the visit, underscoring his commitment to academic development and the promotion of research-oriented learning among students.
Dr Rachna Sabharwal, Professor and Head of the Department of Biochemistry at GMC Jammu, served as the nodal officer for the initiative and accompanied the students. Dr Sabharwal, known for her academic excellence and expertise in medical biochemistry, played an instrumental role in making this educational excursion a success. She has been a mentor to many students at GMC Jammu and has overseen various academic initiatives within the institution.
Throughout the visit, the students had the unique opportunity to explore PGIMER’s state-of-the-art research laboratories and interact with leading medical professionals, gaining valuable insights into the latest advancements in medical research and clinical practices. This tour reflects GMC Jammu’s dedication to providing its students with exposure to premier medical institutions and ensuring they are well-equipped for their careers in the medical field.
The visit, organized under the Scientific Social Responsibility (SSR) initiative of the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), is part of GMC Jammu’s broader efforts to enhance communication with top medical institutions across India.
