LEH, Jan 23: District Level Services Authority (DLSA) Leh today organized a programme on the topic “Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013”.
Justice Tashi Rabstan, Chief Justice High Court of J&K and Ladakh, who is also Patron-in-Chief of Ladakh Legal Services Authority was the chief guest on the occasion.
Spalzes Angmo, Member Secretary, Ladakh Legal Services Authority in her welcome address gave an overview of the programme. She stated that the issue of sexual harassment at work place is a form of gender-based violence that perpetuates inequality, undermines the productivity of organizations and infringes upon the right of every woman.
In his inaugural address, Justice Tashi Rabstan stated that the sexual harassment in its various forms has a lasting impact on the lives of victims. “This doesn’t harm the victims but also poisons the overall work culture fostering an atmosphere of fear and resentment”, he added.
“It is imperative to recognize that a work environment that doesn’t safeguard the rights of women is not only detrimental to the victims but also detrimental to the growth and success of the organization itself”, he further said, adding “we must, as a society, remain steadfast in our commitment to eradicate this form of discrimination and harassment ensuring that all workplaces are fair, respectful and supportive”.
Manoj Parihar, Principal District and Sessions Judge Leh, who is also Chairman DLSA proposed vote of thanks. The proceedings were conducted by Phuntsog Angmo, Secretary DLSA Leh.
The inaugural session was followed by a technical session. Tsering Phuntsog, APP Leh and Advocate Deachen Angmo were the resource persons, who spoke in detail about various provisions of the act and participants actively participated in the programme by putting various questions to the resource persons.
