SRINAGAR, Dec 20: The Hindu Welfare Society today demanded the redressal of grievances and the fulfillment of demands for non-migrant Kashmiri Pandits residing in the valley.
In a statement, the Hindu Welfare Society, a well-known non-political organization dedicated to the welfare of non-migrant Kashmiri Pandits, raised several critical concerns, including the rehabilitation of families who stayed in the valley after the mass migration of the Hindu community over three decades ago due to militancy.
The statement said that 35 years ago, the majority of the Kashmiri Pandit community migrated from the Kashmir Valley to Jammu and other parts of India to protect their dignity, honor and lives from militancy. “However, about 300 families across the valley could not migrate for various reasons. These families continued to struggle and lived under difficult conditions throughout the years,” the statement said.
The Society has regularly brought the grievances and demands of these families to the attention of the State, Central, and UT administrations, but these concerns have largely gone unheard. “We demand the rehabilitation of the internally displaced non-migrant Kashmiri Pandits who have not migrated to Jammu and are currently residing in Srinagar due to security reasons,” the statement read.
The organization emphasized that these families, having left their native places long ago, are unable to return due to ongoing security threats. “Accommodation at par with migrant employees should be provided as soon as possible from the available vacant government quarters, or provisions should be made in new quarters being built,” it added.
The Hindu Welfare Society also called for a special employment package for all non-migrant Kashmiri Pandits. “Youth in these families are unemployed and cannot leave the valley at this time to earn a livelihood,” the statement said.
Furthermore, the organization demanded relief for the internally displaced non-migrant Kashmiri Pandit families, similar to the assistance given to migrant Kashmiri Pandits.
The statement also called for reserved seats for non-migrant Kashmiri Pandit students in technical colleges in Kashmir and other parts of the country. Additionally, it suggested the appointment of nodal officers in each district to promptly address the grievances of non-migrant Kashmiri Pandits.
