JAMMU, Dec 20: The Resident Commission, Government of Jammu & Kashmir, New Delhi, celebrated World Meditation Day with a series of impactful events aimed at promoting mental well-being and mindfulness.
As part of the celebration, a one-hour meditation workshop was conducted in collaboration with the Art of Living Foundation.
The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from employees of the Resident Commission and its sub-offices in Amritsar and Mumbai. Additionally, over 180 degree colleges across Jammu and Kashmir joined the event virtually, ensuring a wider reach and inclusivity.
The event was organized under the ‘Hello J&K’ initiative, a dynamic platform for hosting both online and offline programs with socially progressive themes. Addressing the gathering, Principal Resident Commissioner Dr. Rashmi Singh, highlighted the holistic benefits of meditation, emphasizing its significance in maintaining physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. She lauded the global recognition of meditation, a practice deeply rooted in India’s heritage.
The workshop focused on the transformative role of Pranayama (breathing techniques) in meditation and its efficacy as a tool for managing modern-day challenges. Art of Living instructor Gagan Tokas underscored the importance of meditation in combating anxiety, stress, and depression-issues especially prevalent among youth today.
Concluding the workshop, Shruti Bhardwaj, Nodal Officer for the ‘Hello J&K’ initiative, reiterated the importance of mindfulness and its alignment with the UN theme for the debut World Meditation Day: “Inner Peace, Global Harmony.”
Dr. Rashmi Singh, who also serves as Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education Department, stressed the need to incorporate meditation into the educational curriculum. She highlighted its potential to address critical youth issues such as drug addiction and depression, fostering a healthier, more resilient generation.
This celebration of World Meditation Day by the Resident Commission exemplifies a forward-thinking approach toward societal well-being and youth empowerment.
