JAMMU, May 8: Police today rescued over 100 bovine animals and arrested eight smugglers.
As per police sources, police teams from Bagh-e-Bahu and Channi Himmat police stations laid a naka at Bagh-e-Bahu Morh and intercepted five trucks bearing registration numbers JK05C-1004, JK03C-0863, HR58-2377, JK02AT-83215 and JK02AJ-4071.
Police rescued 87 bovine animals and arrested six smugglers, who have been identified as Bilal Ahmed, son of Abdul Rashid of Rafiabad, tehsil and district Baramulla, Arshad Ahmed, son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din of Potu Shah, Baramulla, Mudaser Ahmed, son of Ali Mohammad of Nowpura Kulgam, Mohammad Ghudu, son of Chirag Din of Marallain, RS Pura, Saif Ali, son of Noor Ali of RS pura and Mukhtyar Ahmed, son of Fathay Mohd of Potha Surankote. Four of the accused managed to escape from the spot taking benefit of the darkness.
Cases under relevant Sections have been registered at Bagh-e-Bahu and Channi Himmat police stations and investigation into the cases is on.
The arrests were made by police teams headed by SDPO East Mohammad Rafiq, SHO Bagh-e-Bahu police station SI Sunil Sharma, SHO Channi Himmat police station Aijaz Ahmed, incharge Narwal police post Inayat Ali and Incharge Sainik Colony police post Sushil Choudhary under the supervision of SP South Rahul Malik and SSP Jammu Atul Goel.
Meanwhile, police team from Gadigarh police post also rescued 34 bovine animals and arrested two smugglers.
On specific inputs, police team from Gadigarh police post headed by SI Khyati Maan Khajuria under the supervision of SHO Satwari police station Inspector Sohail, SDPO Gandhi Nagar Harjeet Singh, SP South Rahul Malik and SSP Jammu Atul Goel laid a naka at Gadigarh and intercepted two trucks bearing registration number JK02AQ-6397 and JK02BE-2209.
During checking, police rescued 34 bovine animals and arrested the drivers of both the vehicles, who have been identified as Abdul Hamid, son of Hasham Din of Basht Chenani and Bashir Ahmed, son of Nazir of Samba Madera.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered at Gadigarh police post and investigation started.
