KU pays tributes to Allama Iqbal on 76th death anniversary

SRINAGAR, Apr 22: To commemorate Allama Iqbal on his 76th death anniversary, Iqbal Institute of Culture and Philosophy, University of Kashmir (KU) today organised ‘Iqbal Day’ at varsity`s Ibn-i-Khuldoon auditorium.
Deliberating upon the various dimensions of Iqbal‘s philosophy, the speakers maintained that Iqbal’s thought and vision transgressed time and space and his message is more relevant today than in the past for all ages, societies and nations.
Acting Vice-Chancellor, University of Kashmir, Prof MA Sofi while referring to the Iqbal’s timeless piece of work ‘Reconstruction of religious thought in Islam’ in his address said that Iqbal was essentially a man of actions and his philosophy and vision had left a great legacy for posterity which he said has been lost due to mankind’s materialistic outlook and ambitions.
Prof Sofi said, “Though both Iqbal`s poetry and prose have been universally accepted as works of a creative genius but it was his understanding and interpretation of Quran which ultimately brought a rationality in his thought and philosophy.”
Renowned expert on Iqbaliyaat, Prof GR Malik, while delivering an extension lecture on the occasion said that Allama Iqbal believed that the foundation of every civilization and social-setup should be based on spiritual values and not on physical values.
In his presidential address, Dean Faculty of Arts, KU, Prof BA Nehvi said that education and other scholarly pursuits of any student or scholar is incomplete without reading Iqbal and his works.
Director, Iqbal Institute of Culture and Philosophy, Prof Taskeena Fazil said that Iqbal’s decade old poetry and teachings show how the youth of 21st century shall acclimatize themselves with the changing dynamics of the world.
Meanwhile, three books were also released including the 22nd edition of Iqbaliyaat- a journal by Iqbal Institute of Culture and Philosophy.
The program concluded with vote of thanks by Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Ganai.
