JAMMU, Apr 21: The work in the High Court as well as District Court Complex Jammu remained affected due to non-appearance of Advocates in protest against the brutal attack on a lawyer by the cops.
Responding to the strike call given by the J&K High Court Bar Association Jammu, the lawyers abstained from the work in the High Court as well as lower courts. The future course of action will be decided in the general house meeting tomorrow.
Meanwhile, while taking cognizance of a complaint filed by Advocate Harshvardhan Gupta against SHO Gandhi Nagar and others, Special Mobile Magistrate Railway Jammu Sandeep Gandotra today issued summons to Inspector Arun Jamwal, his PSO V Chowdhary and ASI P C Saini for appearance on May 6.
In the complaint, Advocate Harshvardhan Gupta said that on April 16, 2014 he along with his colleague Vivek Gupta were stopped near Shivaji Chowk and the cops used rough language while asking the complainant to park the Scooty on one side. When the complainant asked them to behave properly, all the three police officials started abusing and beating the complainant.
When the complainant apprised the cops that he is an Advocate, the former became more aggressive and started uttering the defamatory remarks against the advocate community. Later, the cops took the complainant to the police station where he was assaulted and abused.
After hearing Advocate Rajneesh Oswal appearing for the complainant and recording the preliminary statement of the complainant and witness, Special Mobile Magistrate issued summons to the cops for their appearance on May 6, 2014.
