SRINAGAR, Apr 14:  Opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded an independent inquiry by the Election Commission of India (ECI) into the accusations leveled against them by National Conference President Farooq Abdullah for attacking their youth activist in Pulwama district.
“This is a very serious charge, a charge of murder. And, obviously, this s totally baseless allegation,” PDP chief spokesman Naeem Akhtar told reporters at the party headquarters here today.
Farooq Abdullah yesterday blamed PDP for carrying out attack on their youth activist at Khrew in Pulwama district.
Akhtar said Dr Farooq Abdullah has to come out with the source of his information because his allegations were contrary to the version of Director General of Police and Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, on the attack.
The Opposition party also censured the ECI for not taking any action over the earlier complaints filed by them against the ruling party for alleged violation of Model Code of Conduct. He said the lack of action on the misconduct is emboldening both NC and Congress.
Akhtar also lashed out at the Congress Minister Ghulam Ahmad Mir for raking up religion while campaigning for NC’ s Parliamentary candidate Mehboob Beg in Anantnag.
“I would not comment on the Congress leader and what he represents, but we feel that NC and Congress are deliberately introducing a divisive element into the political discourse of the State where there are no such issues of religion to cover up their failures,” Akhtar said.
The chief spokesperson also snubbed Farooq Abdullah for questioning the huge property acquired by his contestant, Tariq Hamid Karra, and asked him to reply to people how he has acquired his huge property.
