BATOTE, Apr 14: Saying that Udhampur-Doda Parliamentary constituency is brimming with Azad wave, senior National Conference leader Ajay Sadhotra on Monday exuded confidence about massive win for the alliance candidate, describing it vote for the continuity of development and growth.
“The politically sagacious people of the constituency have made up their mind to defeat divisive forces and vote for sustaining peace and continuing development by strengthening the Coalition Government”, Mr Sadhotra while addressing election rallies at Assar, Batote, Rambal and Sudh Mahadev during tour of senior NC leaders in the Udhampur Parliamentary constituency.
He described Ghulam Nabi Azad as embodiment of secularism, saying he has played constructive role in steering the state to peace, progress and development. He said vote to Azad is endorsement to the developmental initiative undertaken by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during the past over five years.
Mr Sadhotra exposed the unholy nexus between BJP and PDP, saying their roles have been complimentary and supplementary to each other for furthering their sinister agenda of weakening National Conference that stands for single-entity of the state and dignity of its people.
The Minister Sadhotra asked the people to see through the sinister plan of the two parties which were fighting the ongoing elections as a fixed match. “Their strategy is to have proxies of PDP candidates in the contest to cut the secular votes”, he said adding this ugly game-plan is not going to succeed as the people have already made known their preference for strengthening the secular forces.
Addressing the election meetings, Provincial President Devender Singh Rana described the ongoing elections as a direct fight between those endeavouring for restoring complete normalcy and ensuring inclusive development and those believing in obstructions. He spelt out the broad developmental contours undertaken by the Government and said that State can boast of the progress it has achieved under the stewardship of Omar Abdullah.
He urged the people to support the alliance candidate Ghulam Nabi Azad, saying this will strengthen the hands of the party President Dr Farooq Abdullah and the Chief Minister. He said the alliance is based on principles and for the larger interest of the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
He indicted BJP for stooping low in a fit of desperation and indulging in rhetoric. He gave the historical perspective of Article 370 and State Subject Laws, saying the reactionary forces were twisting the facts by painting secular forces dark. “While Article 370 is a bridge between Jammu and Kashmir and rest of the country, the residency laws were introduced by Maharaja Hari Singh in 1927 for safeguarding the interests of the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh”, he said.
Mr Rana warned those selling dreams of scrapping Article 370, saying those shying away from discussing this vital constitutional proviso were showing hollow bravado of scrapping this. “National Conference has, is and will fight tooth and nail those seeing pipe dreams about trampling the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
Senior Vice President J&K National Conference Peer Mushtaq Ahmed Bukhari urged the people to reject with contempt the machinations of PDP and BJP aimed at polarising the elections by bringing the people of different faiths face to face.
Former Minister and MLC Khalid Najeeb Suharwardhy cautioned the people against divisive politics being played by BJP and PDP, saying their primary aim is to vitiate the elections by dividing people on religious lines.
