KATHUA, Apr 4: A team of the Legal Metrology Department led by Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Ajay Verma conducted intensive checking of various business establishments especially sweets shops and Karayna shops at Main Bazar Kathua, Patel Nagar, Shaheedi Chowk and adjoining areas of the town.
A total of 8 traders were booked for violation of various provisions of J&K Weights and Measures Enforcement Act and Package Commodities Rules and a penalty of Rs 13200 was imposed on the erring traders during the current month.
Besides this, department also directed all the traders to use only verified Weights and Measures for business transactions and display MRP, PKD, Net Contents and complete address and consumer care number on the commodities to be sold in package form. The team also warned the erring traders to desist from using unfair trade practices, besides appealed to the consumers to remain vigilant while purchasing the commodities.
