JAMMU, Mar 18: In order to ensure free, fair and peaceful conduct of the Lok Sabha election, Chief Electoral Officer Umang Narula today chaired a review meeting in his office chamber.
Special Director General of Police K. Rajendra ,who is Police Nodal Officer for the State was also present in the meeting.
The issue of mobilization and district wise deployment of Central Armed Paramilitary Force (CAPF) and State Armed Police (SAP) was discussed in detail during the meeting.
At the outset of the meeting, the CEO stated that the state has 9633 polling stations and out of these 4059 have been declared as critical polling booths at 3461 polling Station locations.
Special DGP stated that the force deployment for the elections is being made keeping in the view that the Election Commission of India has already extended the time of poll from 7am to 6 pm.
During the meeting, the Special DGP informed that so far 817 licensed weapons have been deposited, 376 persons have been bound/down under the preventive sections of CRPC, 957 non- bail able warrants have been executed, 171 hamlets indentified as vulnerable and 143 persons indentified as probable source of trouble.
The logistical arrangements for the para military forces being made in this regard for troops coming from outside for performing election duties in the State were also discussed.
Meanwhile, in order to review as well as discuss the security arrangements and other connected issues related to smooth conduct of ensuing Lok Sabha elections, Suresh Kumar, Principal Secretary, Home Department today chaired a high level meeting.
The meeting was attended by K. Rajendra Kumar, Special Director General Police, (Coordination), S. P. Vaid, ADGP (Hqrs), R.S. Sodhi, Secretary, Technical, Home Department, Deepak Kumar, IGP (Hqrs), Yoginder Kaul, Commissioner Civil Military Liaison Rajesh Kumar, IGP Jammu, S.S. Tomar, IG BSF, Kuldeep Dhar, IG CRPF and other officers of Home Department. Shailendra Kumar, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir and A G. Mir, IGP Kashmir, participated in the meeting through video-conferencing.
At the outset, Suresh Kumar, sought reports from different security agencies and State Police with regard to the preparedness and the arrangements put in place for smooth conduct of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He stressed for greater synergy and coordination among the different agencies and police for maintenance of law and order and conduct of free and fair elections in the State. He exhorted for creating a congenial atmosphere enabling the people to exercise their franchise without any fear and coercion.
It was also decided that IGP Kashmir and IGP Jammu will work out the requirement of forces and deployment plans at micro level in their respective divisions. They will exchange the required number of companies of security forces as worked out by the Police Headquarters. The Principal Secretary Home directed for early execution of pending warrants and confiscation of unlicensed arms and deposition of licensed weapons.
Special Director General of Police, K. Rajendra Kumar, briefed the meeting about the deployment plan chalked out for smooth conduct of the upcoming elections.
While giving the details about the election preparedness, Mr. Rajendra Kumar, stated that State Police has sensitized all its wings ahead of elections and increased coordination among different agencies is being forged to strengthen intelligence gathering and its sharing, so as to thwart the sinister designs of anti-national elements. He said that joint meetings of different agencies are being convened regularly to share the inputs and deal with the situation accordingly.
Mr. Rajendra also informed that the communication network available with all the agencies including State Police and Central Forces will be used during the elections.
