Srinagar, Jan 18: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) has slammed Minister for Medical Education Taj Mohi-ud-Din for his “irresponsible” statement for blaming winter as cause for infant deaths in the Valley hospitals.
President DAK Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan today said the Minister should know that neither winter vagaries are new to Kashmir nor is Chili-a-Kalan visiting here for the first time.
“Our mothers are not giving birth to babies in winter for the first time. Minister saying that only prayers will save infants is unscientific as doctors are scientists not faith healers and they work to save patients. This unkind and dispassionate commentary on our infant deaths by him is infuriating and unacceptable,” Dr. Hassan was quoted in a statement.
The president said the committee formed to probe these deaths was an eyewash to defuse the public anger.
“We have seen the fate of probes by commissions, committees in past. They were put in trash. In 2010 infant deaths in GB pant hospital nobody was booked for murder. Government appoints commissions to probe against its own wrongdoings. What will they probe?,” he asked.
He charged the Government for never being serious or concerned over infant deaths in the state.
“It is befooling people by probes to cover up their irregularities. The messy system in the valley of which health care is a victim is a state backed phenomenon, conspiracy against unfortunate people,” he said.
