JAMMU, Jan 17: A full grown leopard descended from the nearby forest area and entered Thanamandi town, thus creating terror for several hours this evening.
Reports said some people noticed a leopard this evening coming from Dak Bungalow area during dusk. They raised alarm and alerted the people. They started chasing it by using torches and Mashals. As the people started chasing the wild beast, then it moved towards Court complex and then hid in the nearby bushes.
Most of the people of the area remained confined inside their houses for hours together and many shut down their shops. Some started running helter and skelter in panic. They informed Police and Forest officials who also rushed there and started chasing. But leopard could not be captured till late this evening. It tried to attack two people but they managed to escape as they had lit Mashals. This drama went on for 2-3 hours in the area.
