JAMMU, Jan 16: As a part of Road Safety Week, Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police today organized a Motorcycle Rally. The rally, in which a large number of motorcyclists participated, started from Police Sports Stadium Gulshan Ground and culminated after passing through various routes of Jammu city.
Director General of Police (DGP), Ashok Prasad, flagged off the rally and various senior officers including ADGPs, P. L. Gupta, Dilbag Singh and Transport Commissioner, Sourabh Bhagat were present at the flag off ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Prasad deliberated on the objectives for organizing such rallies and said that awareness among the masses about road safety measures would help to restrict road accidents. He urged for strict adherence of traffic rules to ensure the safety of the people.
The DGP said that road accidents have become a major concern for which people’s awareness is mandatory to avoid the accidents, besides ensuring smooth flow of traffic on the roads. Discussing different factors of road accidents, the DGP emphasized for strict adherence of traffic rules by the road users and the common masses as well. He said that coordination among different stockholders is also mandatory to achieve the requisite goal.
Mr. Prasad said that Road Safety Week is observed all over the country in the month of January every year and Jammu and Kashmir Police like other parts of the country observes this week by organizing different awareness programmes across the State. He said that the aim would be to inspire the people, especially road users to know the merits of road safety and causes of accidents.
The rally consisting of more than 80 motorcyclists of JKP Dare and Devil Team and local motorcyclists passed through Green Belt Park, Gole Market, Apsara Road, Last Morh, Satwari Chowk, Dogra Chowk, Jewal Chowk, Indira Chowk, Shalimar Chowk, CPO Chowk, Janipur, Roop Nagar, Muthi, Paloura, Talab Tillo, Canal Road, sending a message about the road safety measures among the people and culminated at Gulshan Ground.
Earlier, the DIG Traffic Jammu, Shafakat Ali Watali, threw light on different activities being organized during the Road Safety Week.
Among others, the function was attended by IGPs, Arun Kumar and Muneer Ahmed Khan, DIGs, Sham Lal Sharma Mubarak Ahmed Ganai and Shakeel Ahmed Beig, SSP, Jammu, Atul Goel, AIG Welfare (PHQ), Rajeshwar Singh, senior citizens and other police and civil officers.
