52% students pass Class 12 exams

SRINAGAR, Jan 16: Fifty two percent of students have cleared the annual Class 12 examination whose result was declared today by the Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education (BOSE).
Public Relations Officer, JK BOSE said a total number of 51,391 candidates had appeared in the examinations and 26,763 of them have qualified the examination, while as 24, 628 students failed.
Faizan Mushtaq, son of Professor Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi, of Handwara in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district and Junaid-ul-Islam of Government Higher Secondary School, Handwara, have secured 491 marks out of 500 each and stood first in the Science stream.
Faizan Mushtaq while talking to Excelsior said: “I was not expecting first position, but was expecting to be among toppers. And my hard work paid me well.”
The jubilant topper said for qualifying any competitive examination students need to prepare with dedication and zeal. “I studied at least 6 hours a day with dedication to compete in these exams,” Faizan said, adding, that he wants to go for research in future.
The BOSE officials said that top ten positions have been shared by 88, 17, 13, 11 students in Science, Commerce, Arts and Home Science streams respectively.
In Art’s stream, Iram Sheikh of Government Higher Secondary school Baramulla has topped by securing 485 marks. 13 students, among which 10 girls and 3 boys have secured first ten positions in the stream.
Similarly, Dhan Kumari of Government Higher secondary School, Amira Kadal has secured 489 marks and topped the Commerce stream. “17 students, 13 girls and 4 boys, in Commerce stream have secured first 10 positions,” he said.
In Home Science, Bintul Islam of Jamiat-ul-banat has secured 474 marks. All the first 10 positions in this stream have been secured by girls.
Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector General Police, Syed A Mujtaba felicitated students of Police Public School, Bemina.
A police spokesperson said that 11 students of Police Public School, Bemina Srinagar have secured Distinction and 30 students have got first division.
