People protest against power crisis, block NH at 2 places

KATHUA, Jan 1: To register their anger against the power crisis, the irate people at various places in Kathua district today blocked the Pathankote-Jammu National Highway and held protest demonstrations against the authorities.
The National Highway was blocked for half an hour at Raj Bagh by agitating women from the area and adjoining localities who protested against the power crisis.
The protestors alleged that they were facing severe power crisis for last two months now and the authorities have failed to solve the problem despite repeated pleas.
The protestors later lifted the blockade of the highway on the intervention of civil and police officers.
The National Highway was later again blocked at Chadwal for half an hour by irate mob protesting against the power crisis in the area. The protestors raising slogans against the PDD authorities accused them of their total failure in maintain power supply and alleged that from last over two months they have been facing low voltage problem and over 12 hour power cuts in a day.
Meanwhile Shiv Sena Balasahib Thackeray activists led by Ashok Gupta also staged a protest demonstration in front of DC Office here in protest against the severe power crisis being faced by people in Kathua district.
Addressing the demonstrators Ashok Gupta, State president of the Sena said that despite the repeated requests to the authorities they failed to improve the power supply in the district forcing the people to come to streets.
He warned that SS will intensify agitation in case the power supply does not improve in the district.
Sena district president, Narinder Tangri, and district general secretary Ramesh Sharma also addressed the demonstrators.
However when contacted the PDD authorities in the district said that overloading ahs been one of the main cause of power curtailments. He said the transformers get damaged due to overloading which in turn results into power crisis.
Moreover, rains also cause fault resulting into snapping of power supply.
