LEH, Mar 23: A delegation from Jammu and Kashmir Bank comprising Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Baldev Prakash; Deputy General Manager, Tsewang Dorjay and Zonal Head J&K Bank Leh, Dorjay Angchuk called on the Lt Governor B D Mishra (Brig-Retd) at Raj Niwas.
Baldev Prakash informed the LG that there are around 125 banking touch-points in Ladakh, including ATMs. He also informed that ultra-small branches of the bank have been established in rural areas of Ladakh so that the people can avail banking facilities. He assured the LG of all-possible assistance by J&K Bank for the developmental activities in Ladakh as development partners.
LG instructed the CEO and other officials from J&K Bank to conduct a survey to identify areas/villages with big populations that lack banking facilities so that new branches of the bank can be opened. He impressed upon the officials of J&K Bank to open more accounts, especially for females, to promote Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) in Ladakh. He also instructed the officials to ensure that the ultra-small branches of the bank in rural areas are opened six days a week to provide maximum benefit to the people of Ladakh.
Meanwhile, the LG also met and interacted with Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) representatives, at Raj Niwas.
Chairpersons of BDCs and Sarpanches raised their queries regarding streamlining of functioning of PRIs, early sanctioning of funds, increasing the budget for PRIs for development activities, need to increase their honorarium, revival of Back to Village programme and the delimitation of Panchayat Halqas, etc.
The LG promised to look at all these points positively. Chairpersons of BDC and Sarpanches from around eight blocks of Leh district were present. Commissioner Secretary, Rural Development, Saugat Biswas; Secretary, Ravinder Kumar; DC Leh, Shrikant Suse and Director RDD, Tahir Hussain were also present in the interaction session.
