RAMBAN, Feb 12: District administration Ramban today conducted a major anti-encroachment drive in Banihal town and sealed 61 illegal commercial structures constructed on State land besides demolishing two such structures.
The anti-encroachment drive was led by Tehsildar Banihal, Imtiyaz Ahmed along with Revenue and Police officers under the supervision of Sub Divisional Magistrate Banihal, Zaheer Abass.
During the drive 61 commercial structures including 11 godowns constructed on 5 kanal prime State land in town Banihal were sealed.
Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Mussarat Islam has already issued direction to all Revenue officers and officials to retrieve all State land from the encroachers across the district.
The Tehsildar said that administration is in the process of completing an inventory of retrieved State land which will be subsequently transferred as per requirement of the departments.
Official sources said earlier on previous night two local political leaders Mohammad Ilyas Wani of Democratic Azad Party and Qaiser Hamid Sheikh of Congress who sat on protest at tourist hostel Banihal were taken into preventive custody. Both were released by the police later on.
