Arms seized in Kupwara

Srinagar, Jan 4: Security forces today recovered three pistols, along with ammunition, and as many Chinese grenades from a house in Sudhpora Taad in Kupwara district.
“Acting on specific information, Police along with Army (03/08GR) launched a joint cordon and search operation in village Sadhpora Taad area of Karnah, Kupwara,” a police spokesperson said.
“During the search operation, the joint team recovered arms and ammunition including 3 pistols, 3 pistol magazines, 22 pistol rounds and 3 Chinese grenades from a house belonging to Shameem Ahmad Shiekh son of Suderdin Sheikh resident of Sudhpora Taad,” he said
A case (FIR No. 02/2023) has been registered and further investigations are in progress.
In the meantime, an old rusted shell was recovered and defused in Sunglan, Chittergul area of Shangus in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district today.
A police official said that a rusted old shell was recovered last evening. “Today early morning a joint team of police, security forces along with Bomb Disposal Squad reached the spot and the shell was defused,” he said.
