JAMMU, Dec 25: After a series of meetings, action plan for implementation of various project proposals by the Union Territory Level Apex Committee for framing a comprehensive Agriculture Policy for holistic development of Agricultural and other allied sectors in J&K, has been submitted.
A series of meeting were held at SKUAST-Jammu Chatha Campus for finalizing the action plan for implementation of various project proposals including Development of Seed and Seed Multiplication Chain, Strengthening of Agricultural Marketing, Farm Mechanization and Automation in R&D in Design and Manufacturing, Adoption and Promotion of Integrated Farming System, Rainfed Area Development, Formulation of 300 FPS’s, Sensor based Smart Agriculture, Alternate Agriculture System for sustainability, Soil and land Resources Information System and Soil Health Management, Innovative Extension Approaches for Promoting Agriculture, Minimizing Pesticide Residues in Agriculture, Food Processing and Specific Cluster for specific projects, Development of fodder resources, Promotion of Medicinal and Aromatic plants, Sericulture, Bee Keeping, Promotion of Millets and Nutri-cereals, Dairy development, Fish Seed and Trout Production etc in Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
The holistic strategic plan will be implemented by all developmental departments including Agriculture, Horticulture Animal Husbandry etc through research system support from two farm universities (SKUAST Jammu and SKUAST Kashmir) with proactive support of the Government that will have a far-reaching impact on the scenario of agriculture and allied sector besides boosting the economy of the farmers.
The committee under the chairmanship of Dr Mangala Rai, former Secretary DARE and DG , ICAR, comprised of Ashok Dalwai, CEO, NRAA, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, GoI, New Delhi; Atal Dulloo, Financial Commissioner (Additional Chief Secretary), Agriculture Production & Farmers Welfare Department, Government of J&K, Dr P K Joshi, Secretary, NAAS, New Delhi; Dr Prabhat Kumar, Horticulture Commissioner, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, Dr H S Gupta, former Director IARI & DG BISA, Dr J P Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu and Dr Nazir Ahmed Ganai, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Kashmir (Member Secretary, UTLAC) discussed action plan of 29 proposals for their implementation keeping in mind both short term and long term goals.
The meeting also discussed terms of references of the committee and it was impressed upon the Techical Working Groups to act as subject matter specialists and accordingly work in their respective working domains.
