60-year-old man succumbs to dengue, toll reaches 12

JAMMU, Nov 7: With one more death reported yesterday, the death toll due to dengue in Jammu and Kashmir has reached to 12 in this season while as 6,799 people have been found positive for this dreaded disease so far in the Union Territory.
Giving information about the recent death, a Health official said that a 60-year-old man belonging to Laswara (Bishnah) area of Jammu succumbed to dengue fever late last night in Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu.
He informed that as on date, tests of 21,401 people have been conducted for dengue virus, of which 6,799 turned out positive for the virus. He said that 4,747 cases have been reported alone from Jammu district, followed by 632 from Udhampur, 247 from Samba, 197 from Doda, 101 from Reasi, 112 from Kathua, 80 from Rajouri, 42 from Ramban, 32 from Poonch and 24 from Kishtwar district.
In Kashmir region, the official said only 10 positive cases have been reported so far while 16 cases of locals were reported from other states/UTs. He further informed that a total of 201 tests for dengue were conducted today in the Union Territory and out of these 52 were found positive with 24 cases reported from Jammu district, 18 from Udhampur, 3 from Ramban and 1 each from Samba, Reasi, Rajouri and Poonch districts.
Giving figures of dengue cases reported from the UT in last 7 days, the official said 134 people were found positive for dengue on November 1, 173 on November 2, 159 on November 3, 147 on November 4, 140 on November 5 and 126 on November 6.
