LEH, Oct 7: The present generation of Ladakh has to play a role of hook to pull the coming generation of Ladakh towards land based economy and to pursue this ultimate responsibility. It was said by CEC, LAHDC, Leh Rigzin Spalbar, who was chief guest during a daylong Cow show-cum-farmers training programme at Thiksay village here on Sunday.
Organized by Animal Husbandry Deprtment, Leh under ATMA scheme, the programme was attended by about 70 families from Thiksay and nearby villages along with about 200 Jersey Cows including Heifers and Calves.
Emphasizing upon the importance of land based economy, Spalbar said we Ladakhis are engaged in agrarian based economy since time immemorial and now it is a high time to make this sub sustained economy more productive and remunerative by exploring the fullest potential of agriculture along with livestock development.
Stressing on reviving the strong cooperative culture of Ladakhi society, Spalbar urged every section of society to work together to achieve progress in their respective fields.
Executive Councilor Animal and Sheep Husbandry, Gyurmet Dorjey, who was guest of honor on the occasion stressed upon the breeders to take such training programmes very seriously said that shifting towards land based economy is the top priority of present Council.
Underlining recent achievements of Council, Gyurmet said that recently installed Rs 1.30 crore Milk Pasteurization Plant at Spituk, setting up of New Clinical Complex at Skara and introduction of Automatic Milk Vending Machine Swap Operating (AMVMSO) in Leh, etc will go a long way to lead milk industry of Leh towards new heights.
The Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Dr Abdul Qayum in his welcome speech urged upon the farmers to adopt new technology like artificial insemination for breeding of improved animals for better economic results.
Later, the chief guest gave away cash prizes among the farmers for their best cows.
