RAJOURI, Sept 6: In continuation of reach-out campaign started by Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) to aware the DPs of 1947 from PoK about the basic issues concerning their final settlement, a team comprising of Gurdev Singh-president, Bagwan Singh, Capt Puran Singh Chib and Joginder Lal took an extensive tour of all the DPs villages situated in various tehsils of district Rajouri.
The meetings were held at village Dhangri, Muradpur, Bathouni, Doongi (Tehsil Rajouri), Dabbar, Kalal, Deeing, Siyal, Lambheri (Tehsil Nowshera), Brehvi, Dubbian (Tehsil Kalakote), Sunderbani and Bajabain. A large number of DPs all over the villages participated in the meetings.
While interacting with the participants Gurdev Singh apprised the DPs of their issues and told them that a protracted struggle was launched by JKSAC since its inception in 1967 for the permanent resolution of the basic issues like adequate compensation of their left-out properties in PoK, quota for their wards in Govt services/technical institutions, de-freezing of their share of Assembly seats and full proprietary rights over the allotted lands, cost of which was deducted by the Govt from the ex-gratia relief provided in 1960 without taking into consideration the quantum of lands allotted to each DP family.
He told the DPs that after pressing hard the Govt granted occupancy tenancy rights to DPs over evacuee lands under section 3-A and proprietary rights over little bit allotted state lands vide order 254-C of 1965. The first three main demands concerning final settlement are still pending redressal from the past several decades and for their achievement the struggle shall have to be continued.
He further said that attention of the previous as well as present Government has always been drawn by JKSAC towards the said basic issues, but none of the Government showed any interest and the issues are still pending redressal. He said that with the creation of J&K as a UT, DPs were very hopeful that adequate measures would be taken to resolve their decade old legitimate issues as J&K is now fully and constitutionally integrated with India.
