REASI, Sept 26: The Safai Karamcharis today called off their strike on the assurance of the Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary.
As unhygienic condition in the holy town was creating nuisance for the locals as well as pilgrims due to the ongoing strike of Safai Karamcharis, Deputy Commissioner Reasi accompanied by Director Urban Local Bodies Arun Sharma held talks with striking employees and Safai Karamcharis of Municipal Committee Katra.
DC informed the striking Safai Karamcharis that Government was proactively considering their demands and issues would be settled in two months time. Director ULBs also gave a detail about various steps being taken by the department.
The DC assured the employees and Safai Karamcharis that he will personally take up their issues with Administrative Secretary and Minister for Housing and Urban Development Department. Based on assurance of DC, the employees called off 16-day long strike, which will be a great relief to the holy town of Katra where more than 30,000 pilgrims visit everyday.
Dr Shahid Iqbal advised the Director ULB, to expedite the pending issues of the employees of Katra and Reasi Municipal Committees on priority. EO Municipal Committee Ravi Kumar and other officials were present in the meeting.
