SAMBA, Aug 18: RK Kalsotra, State president All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organisations today met DC Samba, Anuradha Gupta along with vice president, Confederation, Ramesh Sarmal and habitants of village Chak Jamgi, Samba namely Sat Pal Bhagat, Bodh Raj, Raj Kumar, Yash Paul, Ram Paul, Harbans Lal and Mukesh regarding shift of a proposed junction at ChakJangi Samba on National Express Highway Delhi- Ludhiana- Amritsar -Katra to a Khad lying between Chak Jangi and Jatwal i.e. between 479 to 480 km point on National Express Highway.
Kalsotra said that the issue has been raised by the residents since 2020 but no heed was paid to it. Plenty of land is lying between Chak Jangi and Jatwal under a Khad, which is Government land and is not in the possession of anybody or under cultivation. On the other hand the land in Chak Jangi at the proposed NEH Junction is about 50 Acres and whole of the land is agriculture land and 30 families belonging to Scheduled Caste community are cultivating it. All these families are very poor and this land is the only source of their livelihood. If the land under Chak Jangi is acquired for NEH and Junction, all these families will starve to death. Hence the acquisition of this land for NEH Junction should not taken.
Kalsotra appealed the DC that either the junction should be shifted or another piece of land should be allotted to the victim families before the project begins. DC Samba assured that she will take the matter seriously and will seek a report from NHAI immediately.
