MENDHAR, Sept 15: In an ugly incident of banned corporal punishment in educational institutions, a Government school teacher severely beat up a student of class 3rd and broke his arm in tehsil Mendhar of Poonch district.
The minor boy got two fractures in his left arm and was hospitalized. The incident took place yesterday in Govt Middle School Chhajla Dakki in Mankote area of Mandhar. Over some petty issue while copies checking during the school time, teacher Mohd Shah Nawaz, resident of Ramkund, Mendhar allegedly started beating up 3rd class student Mohd Irfan, son of Mehmood Ahmed of Mankote. The boy was even thrown down on the earth by the furious teacher resulting into the two major fractures in his arm.
The boy belonged to a poor family and is said to be shining student of the class. This all happened in full view of the other class students. The teacher after realizing his guilt and sensing trouble, did not send the boy home as he was crying with pain after his arm was broken. After the school closed, the teacher took the boy to a private Medical store at Mendhar and got him plaster.
As the boy did not return home his mother and other family members started searching for him. Later, they came to know from the fellow students about the whole episode and rushed to Mendhar town in his search. The teacher tried to influence the family for compromise and not to report matter to police.
Today, the relatives of the child and other villagers when came to know about the matter, refused any compromise and took the boy to the Government hospital Mendhar. He was examined under the supervision of BMO Mendhar and it was found that boy had got two major fractures in his left arm. He was provided proper plaster and a Medico Legal Case was registered in this connection. Later, the parents of the child lodged a written complaint against the teacher demanding action under law. The police booked the teachers and started investigation.
Meanwhile, in yet another case of similar nature, the police has booked teacher Razeen Kouser of a private school Pakeeza Model Accademy Mendhar for allegedly beating up 3rd class student Mavish Shakoor, daughter of Mohd Shakur. The girl, a monitor of the class, with multiple injuries was removed to Mendhar hospital and admitted vide MLC/MRD No. 7345. The police has taken cognizance of the corporal punishment.
