PHE employees hold protest demonstration

UDHAMPUR, Sept 10: The Water Works (PHE) Employees Association took out a massive protest rally and held protest demonstration in support of long pending genuine demands at Majalta under the chairmanship of Som Nath, Jammu provincial vice president of the Association.
The PHE employees and workers assembled at Panchayat Ghar and the slogan shouting employees marched upo to the office of Tesildar Majalta where they held a strong demonstration.
Mr Som Nath while addressing demanded a clear cut policy for the PHE Department as about 20,000 PHE workers were without wages for the past 18 months and called for immediate clearance of their wages so as to save the workers from starvation where they have reached upto by now in the present era of sky rocketing prices of essential commodities.
Som Nath also demanded that back door appointment by way of engaging persons on consolidated  basis on the instructions of the leaders should be stopped forthwith and demanded a fair selection of workers under laid down criteria and first of all the daily wagers should be regularized.
Association appealed the Minister for PHE, I&FC, to concede the genuine demands of the PHE employees at an earliest and issue directions to the subordinates to fulfill the demands of employees, which are in their competence, as most of the officers pass their tenure and do not take interest in getting fulfilled the demands of the workers and employees of the Department, for obvious reasons.
Other demands highlighted in the meeting pertained to posting of new staff to man the new water supply schemes on which crores of rupees have been expended but no operational staff appointed. They also demanded change of designation of employees as per the nature of job being done by them.
They also demanded holding of DPC, which has not been conducted for the past 15 years; Benefit of SRO 64; Conversion of CP workers as daily wagers; and a clear cut policy for the department.
