Gagran violence;Curfew imposed in south Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Sept:  An indefinite curfew has been imposed in twin towns of Shopian and Kulgam in south Kashmir as a precautionary measure following violence in which four people were killed in alleged Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) firing at Gagran yesterday.
Massive violence erupted in Shopian and other parts of the south Kashmir yesterday after four people were killed near a CRPF camp at Gagran, about 52 km from here.
Security forces burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge to disperse the demonstrators, who alleged that all the four deceased people were innocent civilians.
The Communist Party of India (M) has demanded a judicial probe while Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) condemned the CRPF firing and demanded action against the guilty personnel.
Police did not said anything about this incident.
Three of the four deceased people were identified as Touseef Ahmad, Mohammad Yousuf and Tariq Ahmad.
Taking no chance, the authorities imposed curfew restrictions since early this morning  as a precautionary measure in Shopian and adjoining areas.
Indefinite curfew has also been imposed Kulgam town since early this morning as a precautionary measure.
A large number of security forces and state police personnel have been deployed to strictly implement the  restrictions.
Residents of these towns said repeated announcements were being made that curfew has been imposed.
Elsewhere in these districts, restrictions under section 144 CrPC were being strictly implemented.
Similar restrictions have also been imposed in Anantnag town to maintain law and order.
