This has reference to the news item ‘Omar for nurturing talent of sports persons’ DE Sept 5.
The upcoming football academy in the cool climes of Baramulla in Kashmir is a step towards promoting football game in the State. Though the football game has remained very much popular among the J&K players, it had not received much support from the Government. The players who have made it at national or international level have done so because of their own afforts. No contribution has been made by the Government in this context.
The football academy should not be mere a building, a mere set of rooms equipped with latest facilities but an academy in true sense where players can have the support of internationally acclaimed coaches and other training facilities. It should produce players of international stature who can contribute to growth of the game and make the State proud.
