2 militant associates held, 3 teenagers rescued

Srinagar May 17: A 52-year-old man was killed while three others were injured after militants lobbed a grenade inside a newly-opened wine shop, at Dewan Bagh area in Baramulla district this evening.
Police said that the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, one among them identified as Ranjit Singh, 52, son of Krishan Lal of Rajouri succumbed to his injuries.
The injured have been identified as Govinder Singh of Kathua, Ravi Kumar son of Kartar Chand of Kathua and Govind Singh from Rajouri district.
Police said that the condition of one among the three injured persons, Govind Singh, is stated to be critical and he has been referred to Srinagar hospital for specialised treatment.
Meanwhile, the search operation has been launched in the area to nab the attackers.

Police further said that two militants came on a motor-cycle and one of them who was wearing burka lobbed a hand grenade.
“The pillion rider wearing a burka walked to the window of the wine shop and dropped a grenade inside through the porthole window and thereafter fled away on the bike from the spot” they said.
Senior police officers immediately reached the spot. The area has been cordoned and search in the area is going on, police said, adding that a case has been registered in this regard under relevant sections of law and investigation is in progress. “Officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of the incident,” he said.
Meanwhile, Security forces arrested two Lashkar-e-Toiba militant associates in Budgam district today while three teenagers who were trying to ex-filtrate into Pakistan ooccupied Kashmir (PoK) were rescued.
Security forces including Budgam Police, 62 RR of Army and 43rd battalion of CRPF arrested two militant associates of LeT from Chandpora in district Budgam.
They have been identified as Zahid Ahmad Sheikh son of Jalal-u-Din Sheikh, resident of Alamnag Poshkar Khag and Sahil Bashir Dar son of Bashir Ahmad Dar, resident of Mamath Budgam.
A police spokesperson said that incriminating materials, explosive material and ammunition including one hand grenade, two pistol magazines and 15 AK-47 rounds of ammunition have been recovered from their possession.
A case (FIR No. 153/2022 under relevant sections of law) has been registered at Police Station Budgam and investigation has been initiated.
In a joint action, Jammu and Kashmir Police and Army prevented three teenagers from falling into the trap of militants by apprehending them from forest area of village Kandi in Baramulla. The three misguided boys were on way to cross the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara.
They have been identified as Nasir Ahmad Waza son of Ghulam Rasool Waza, Adnan Naseer Khan son of Naseer Ahmad Khan and Umar Reyaz Sofi son of Reyaz Ahmad Sofi, all residents of Dooru Sopore were following the route which was explained to them by a surrendered militant of their locality.
The teenagers appear to have been motivated by the stories of glamorisation of militants by the surrendered militant who showed them the way to reach Pakistan.
The joint operation of the Police and Army was launched when an input regarding some suspicious movement in the forest area usually followed by militants was received by Police.
On apprehension, the matter was investigated and it was found that these teenagers seem to have been misguided and they should get a chance to lead a normal life.
