JAMMU, Apr 22: J&K Panchayat Parishad (JKPP) has stated that the Government needs to establish a mechanism to save the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) from red-tapism, political bossism and exploitation.
In a press conference here today JKPP president, Dr. Kuldeep Sharma said that District Development Councils (DDCs) are yet to be fully empowered in J&K for want of District Planning and Development Boards and some necessary committees under the provisions of Panchayati Raj Act.
He claimed that such avoidable delays retard the natural development process.
Dr. Sharma said that JKPP-a State unit of All India Panchayat Parishad (AIPP) is continuing with the movement for establishing visibly empowered three-tier Panchayati Raj in J&K for the last about three decades.
“After the abrogation of Article 370 and with the implementation of 73rd and 74th Amendments, the empowered PRIs are engaged in giving momentum to our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s mission of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas Sabka Vishwas,” he maintained adding that there are reasons to believe that PM’s visit to Jammu on April 24, 2022 shall prove a turning point in history of Panchayati Raj in J&K that may fulfill hopes and aspirations of all particularly the promising youth, women and weaker sections of the society with the establishment of functional grass root level democracy.
Demand of minimum academic qualification for Panches, Sarpanches and other functionaries under PRIs was also raised on the occasion.
Jugal Kishore Gupta, Member AIPP; Gopal Dass Sharma, senior vice president and others were also present in the press conference.
