SRINAGAR, Aug 27: The Speaker, Legislative Assembly Mubarak Gul today conducted extensive tour of Zero bridge to Chattabal Weir and took stock of various developmental and beautification works taken up by several departments along both banks of River Jhelum.
The District Development Commissioner, Srinagar Farooq Ahmad Shah, Director Tourism Kashmir Talat Parvez, Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control (I & FC), Kashmir Javeed Jaffar and other officers and engineers from Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Roads & Buildings, Jammu and Kashmir Project Construction Corporation (JKPCC), Tourism and I & FC Departments accompanied the Speaker during his visit.
The concerned officers appraised the Speaker about the progress of different works along the river banks.
The Speaker directed the concerned executing agencies to gear up their field functionaries and speed up the pace of work on all on going developmental works and complete them in the stipulated time frame.
Referring to the various developmental initiatives undertaken by the present Government for ensuring sustained development of the old City Srinagar, Mr. Gul said that the steps have already been undertaken to develop the historic city on heritage pattern, adding that beautification programme along the banks of River Jhelum will also receive further attention and funds. He also asked the SMC authorities to ensure proper rehabilitation of the affected people.
While inspecting the three heritage projects Malik Sahab Sakta, Ram Mandir and Ganpath Yar costing Rs.80 lakh, the Speaker directed Tourism Director, to ensure completion of these projects at the earliest.
