Joint delegation of PHE Employees’ Association, EJAC calls on PHE Minister

SRINAGAR, Aug 27: A joint delegation of PHE Welfare Association, Jammu Province, All Kashmir PHE Employees Federation and Members of Employees Joint Action Committee called on the Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control here today and discussed several issues pertaining to the welfare of the PHE employees.
Commissioner/Secretary PHE, Dr. Pawan Kotwal and Chief Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control, Kashmir, Mir Javed Jaffer were also present on the occasion.
The delegation put forth charter of demands pertaining to the difficulties and welfare of the employees, especially the field staff and requested the Minister to consider these demands sympathetically and resolve at the earliest. They pleaded that the field staff is the backbone of the department which is responsible for ensuring essential services at the ground level and they deserve fair treatment and Government must address their all outstanding issues.
The demands included, regular disbursement of wages to all daily rated/need based/CP workers, implementation of SRO 3 of Labour Department, increasing of daily wages, regularization of daily rated workers who have completed 5 years of regular service, regular conduct of DPCs to fill up all vacant posts, introduction of Welfare Fund Scheme for all cadres of employees, computerization of GPF accounts, framing of new recruitment policy, creation of more posts for different categories and so on.
The Minister gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured that all genuine demands will be examined on priority and resolved in a phased manner. He said Government was aware about the difficulties of the employees and also know the importance of the field staff which is maintaining the essential service and all out efforts will be made to provide them justice. He said most of the issues contained in the charter of demands are under the active consideration of the Government and shortly these will be addressed.
Regarding regularization of daily rated workers, he said the information is being compiled and after necessary verification of each case, the Government will take a decision shortly.
Seeking wholehearted support of the Associations of the employees for improving public services, the Minister asked them to motivate the workers to work with extra zeal and dedication and Government will do proper justice with them. He asked the Trade Union leaders to play a positive role and work in close coordination between the Government and the employees for achieving better results.
Jammu province was represented by Bakshi Singh, President, PHE Workers Welfare Association and Subash Chander, General Secretary, whereas Kashmir division was led by G.A.Nath, Chairman, All Kashmir PHE Employees Federation and F.A.Bhat, General Secretary. The EJAK was represented by Sushil Soodan and Mehraj-ud-Din Sheikh. Rattan Doshi, Ashok Kumar, Manzoor Ali, Surinder Kumar and Bansi Lal, Members were also present in the meeting.
