JAMMU, Mar 11: The UT level Weightlifting Champion-ship, organised by J&K Weightlifting Association in collaboration with J&K Sports Council aiming to encourage and develop the sports culture among the weightlifter, inaugurated by Secretary Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul at Indoor Sports Complex, Bhagwati Nagar, here today.
More than 100 (boys & girls) players in different weight categories are taking part in the two days event.
The members of the J&K Weightlifting Association and players appreciated efforts of the Government of India and J&K for providing the weightlifting sets under PMDP Khelo India Scheme to each district of the Jammu province.
Earlier, the welcome address was presented by the general secretary of the Association and he thanked the Secretary Sports Council for providing weightlifting sets in each district which will provide a chance to catapult this game at grassroots level.
Harbhajan Singh, president of the Association and Yudhvir Singh, general secretary presented the vote of thanks to the chief guest and other dignities who were present during the occasion for encouraging the players.
In youth category 49 kg, Vasu Sharma stood first, in 55 kg, Sayed Ahitshan Andarabi and Krish Saini remained 1st and 2nd respectively, in 61kg, first three positions were secured by Aman Ahmad, Sanatan Choudhary and Vardesh Kaushal respectively, in 67 kg, Narender Lalotra and Ayush Mangotra stood 1st and 2nd respectively, in 73 kg, Mohd Yunzer and Kartika Kantheral remained 1st and 2nd respectively, in 81 kg, top two places were clinched Paras Gupta and Vaibhav Sharma respectively.
In junior category 55 kg, Sayed Ahitshan Andarabi stood first, in 61 kg, Imran Khan and Said Mustakh stood 1st and 2nd respectively and in 67 kg, Nirbhay Pratap Singh remained first and Uzair Tariq and Aravind Kumar stood 2nd and 3rd respectively, besides in 73 kg, top two positions were won by Mohd Yunzair and Razvan Yousif respectively, while in kg, Jatin Jamwal and Pankaj Kumar won 1st and 2nd places.
In senior 55 kg, top three places were won by Ravi Shankar, Junaid Shah and Anil Kumar respectively, while in 61kg, Prashant Sharma, Rohit and Sourab Sharma stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd and in 67 kg, first three places were bagged by Nirbhaya Pratap Singh, Dawood Farooq and Rahul Chopra respectively, besides in 73 kg, 1st, 2nd 3rd places were won by Manpreet Singh, Naman Mahajan & Rishab, whereas in 81 kg, Parveen Kumar, Jatin Jamwal and Noting Balgotra stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively.
