JAMMU, Feb 21: A three- day Sculptors Camp organized by ‘Dhruva Satya- The Atelier Studio’, Birpur, dedicated to Late Gobind Kour, 1st contemporary woman sculptor of Jammu, concluded with the distribution of certificates to the participating artists.
A function was organized on this occasion where Anuradha Gupta, District Development Commissioner, Samba was the chief guest whereas Rajinder Singh ADC, Samba and Jang S Verman, senior artist & husband of Late Gobind Kour were the special guests.
Eminent sculptor Ravinder Jamwal and his wife Sarpanch Veena Jamwal were hosts of the event while senior artists and prominent citizens of Birpur were present on this occasion.
While speaking on this occasion, Anuradha Gupta complimented the organizers for holding such event in the memory of Gobind Kour. She said that organizing such events help in developing healthy environment in the society. She hoped her administration may come up with project to establish park with creative artifacts. She also hoped that the department might organize art interactive and training workshops of the students with the artists in the coming days.
A number of installations created by sculptors Jai Singh and Priti Misra from Kangra, Balwinder Singh from Sangrur, Joginder Pal from Pathankot, Kaneesh Pandotra from Kathua, Mukesh and Arjinder Kumar from R S Pura, Chetan Bandral and Kunal from Jammu, Ankush Kumar from Nagrota, and Sachin from Udhampur were visited and appreciated by the dignitaries.
Earlier, welcoming the guests and artists, Ravinder Jamwal said that the three days’ sculptors’ camp this year, has been dedicated to Late Gobind Kour, 1st contemporary woman sculptor of Jammu who happened to be his Guru and a colleague at the Department of Sculpture, Institute of Music & Fine Arts, University of Jammu. In the past too, the organizers of the camp have dedicated such a camp to Late V R Khajuria, a prominent sculptor, painter and a writer of Jammu & Kashmir. He added that the twelve artists who had got training in sculpture under his supervision, alongwith other art teachers (at IMFA, Jammu), were invited to participate in the camp.
Jang S Verman and Jai Singh also expressed their views on this occasion. Veena Jamwal extended the vote of thanks.
