JAMMU, Aug 7: Member of Parliament (MP), Rajya Sabha, Tarun Vijay, raised the issue of atrocities on the miniscule Buddhist minority of Zanskar, Ladakh region in Rajya Sabha today and demanded Home Ministry to conduct high level enquiry.
Tarun Vijay said that Zanskar is a very sensitive border area which has faced the brunt of Chinese attack in 1962 and has steadfastly stood firm defending Indian border. But, J&K Government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is discriminating against them and encouraging communal Islamists against peace loving Buddhists and this is the reason Zanskar people were demanding a separate district.
Raising this issue in the Parliament today, Tarun Vijay said that recently Buddhists in Zanskar were subjected to a tyrannical assault by some anti social elements. It seems to be a well planned strategy to wipe out the Buddhists from their soil like the mass exodus of the Hindu Pandits and Christians from the Valley in the past.
The Ladakh Buddhist Association has demanded a high level probe by the Ministry of Home Affairs which I support, he added. In the above unfortunate situation, the Central Government must intervene in the matter, listen immediately before it gets out of control and engulfs the whole of Ladakh region.
