JAMMU, Aug 7: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma on Wednesday visited villages along the river Chenab to assess the damage caused to land and inner roads along the right bank of the river due to heavy rain in upper areas besides taking stock of restoration and prevention measures being taken up by the concerned departments.
The Minister visited village Maira, Sangrampur, Muthi Maira, Chanjaewan, Chak Skinder etc located on right bank of the river Chenab and rook stock of restoration works being done there by the Flood Control Department. He instructed the concerned engineers to upgrade the crate up to roads level to save the land from floods. He directed the Superintending Engineer Jammu to complete all the works on war footing.
Mr. Sham informed that a comprehensive plan for channalization of river Chenab is under active consideration of the Government and the work on these prestigious projects would be started as soon as all formalities are completed. He also said that Government is keen to address the problems of flood hit areas on priority.
The Minister appealed the locals as well as Sarpanchs and Panchs of the area to extend cooperation to the executing agencies for better and effective implementation of development works.
The Minister said that various development works are being implemented under various Central and State sponsored schemes like MGNREGA. He also called upon the concerned officers to work with zeal and dedication to ensure that the schemes will be completed in a time bound manner.
SE Hydraulic Rajeev Malhotra, Executive Engineers of Irrigation and Flood Control and concerned officers accompanied the Minister.
