JAMMU, Aug 4: People today held protests and blocked Jammu-Srinagar National Highway at Ramban demanding an inquiry and action into the “killing” of an 18 years old youth at village Karol near Ramban.
Body of the youth identified as Dara Singh, 18, son of Raghubir Singh R/o Kanthi Ramban was found hanging from a tree at Karol this morning. He had left his Kanthi house at 5 pm for another house at Karol but didn’t reach there.
People observed body of Dara Singh hanging with the tree this morning and raised an alarm. Police parties from Ramban rushed to the spot and shifted the body to hospital.
Local people gathered at Ramban and blocked the National Highway alleging that the boy had been murdered. They claimed that the boy had torturous marks on his neck, which resulted into his death.
Demanding action against the killers and an inquiry into the matter, the local people including family members of the victim alleged that the boy had been killed first and then hanged with the tree to make it a suicide.
Traffic on either side of the National Highway, which was blocked by the people at 8 am, remained suspended till this afternoon till the people lifted their dharna on the assurance of Deputy Commissioner, Ramban MH Malik that an inquiry will be conducted into the matter and action taken if it turned out to be a case of murder.
Following assurance by the Deputy Commissioner, the people lifted their dharna.
Police got post-mortem on the body conducted from the Board of Doctors and handed it over to the family for cremation, which was performed in the evening.
Police have initiated inquest proceedings in the case for further investigations.
