Protest against encroachment of natural pond by Aquaf

JAMMU, July 17: Up in arms against alleged encroachment of a natural pond near Peer Baba at Kunjwani near the National Highway, local held a strong protest demonstration against the Aquaf Board.
The protesting people raised slogans against the Aquaf authorities and also blocked the ever busy National Highway resulting to disruption of vehicular movement on the road for some time.
They accused the Aquaf authorities of encroaching upon the natural pond near Peer Baba by fencing the entire chunk of land.
The protesters were led by local Sarpanch Shamsher Singh, ex-Corporator Satish Sharma, BJP leader Baldev Singh Bloeria and PDP leader Choudhary Hussain Ali Wafa. They addressed the protesting people and threatened to stage an indefinite dharna if the said encroachment is not removed immediately with stern warning to Aquaf authorities.
Later, Deputy Commissioner Jammu A K Sahu personally reached the spot and assured the protesters that Government would not allow encroachment or any construction on the land said to be natural pond. He also assured necessary action in this regard following which the protesters dispersed off.
