JAMMU, Oct 3: Some prominent businessmen have alleged blackmailing by self styled RTI activists and urged the Government authorities to initiate action against this mafia operating through social media posts.
“The kingpin of these self styled RTI activists has devised a modus operandi of leveling fake allegation against prominent citizens on his facebook wall and thus harassing people,” said social activist Rajesh Padgotra while addressing a press conference along with Chairman of Brick Kiln Association, J&K, Jugal Mahajan and President of Brick Kiln Association, R S Pura, Jagjit Singh, here today.
Alleging that mafia was misusing provisions of RTI to harass businessmen, bureaucrats, academicians and prominent citizens of Jammu for blackmailing purpose, Padgotra also listed example of a brick kiln owner, who was allegedly blackmailed for three years and then demanded huge money from him.
Padgotra further alleged that these so called RTI activists were operating to favour land mafia and bovine smugglers also in Jammu. He urged the Government to order verification of assets raised by these self styled RTI activists and take necessary action against them.
Speaking on the occasion, Jugal Mahajan said that the brick kiln industry was operating legally and the Government has constituted a committee to see that no outside brick kiln enters J&K. The order on the direction of Div Com Jammu will be out by tomorrow or day after tomorrow, he added.
Others who participated in the press conference, included S Mohindar Singh, S Santokh Singh, Balbir Singh, Janak Singh, Ranjit Singh, Daljit Singh, Narayan Singh, Gurdyal Singh and Sher Singh.
