Hemant Soren sworn in as J’khand’s ninth CM

RANCHI: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha’s legislature wing leader Hemant Soren was today sworn in as Jharkhand’s ninth Chief Minister in a function organised at ‘Birsa Mandap’, Raj Bhavan here.

Mr Soren was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor Syed Ahmed.
Apart from Mr Soren, Congress leader Rajendra Prasad Singh along with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Koderma MLA Annapurna Devi also took oath as Cabinet Ministers.
Mr Ahmed has asked Mr Soren to prove majority on the floor of the assembly within seven days.
JMM supremo Shibu Soren, former Union Tourism Minister Subodh Kant Sahai, Rajya Sabha MP Pradeep Kumar Balmuchu, along with RJD’s Rajya Sabha MP Ram Kripal Yadav were present on the occasion.
However, no prominent leaders or MLAs from the main opposition were present in the ceremony.
On July 9, Mr Soren had submitted a letter of support from 43 MLAs and had staked claim to form the next government in the state.
Besides JMM, Congress, RJD, independents and others are also supporting the new coalition.
