KATHUA, July 12: Police today registered a FIR against the doctor on duty in District Hospital Kathua whose alleged negligence led to the death of Punjab Singh, 50, an ex-serviceman from village Chak Ram Chand near Bagyal in Kathua district yesterday.
According to police the FIR was registered on the basis of complaint of relatives and people of the village that Punjab Singh died due to the negligence of doctor in the District Hospital Kathua.
The Police has registered the FIR number 255, under Section 304 against the doctor on duty. It may be recalled that the Directorate of Health has also constituted a Board of Doctors to probe the matter.
Punjab Singh was injured on July 8 after his Scooty skidded off the road. He was admitted in District Hospital Kathua for treatment where he was operated upon and later discharged in the evening. But his condition deteriorated at his residence and the family members yesterday rushed him to a private nursing home where he was declared brought dead. Later the family took the body to district Hospital Kathua and staged a protest there.
Subsequently the local villagers also joined the protest and blocked the National Highway alleging that the death of the Punjab Singh was the result of the doctor’s negligence and a case be registered against him and action taken under rules.
