Education essential for skill development: Pallam Raju

MYSORE, July 5:
Union Minister for Human Resource Development Minister M M Pallam Raju today underlined the need for an education system which plays a major role in providing knowledge and skills required for sustained growth of the economy and to ensure overall development of the country.
Addressing the 93rd convocation of the University of Mysore here, he said education is something that could be transferred from one generation to another automatically and at the same time, it has to be earned with great and sincere efforts by each generation.
He said that the higher education does not stop at knowledge alone; it goes beyond and embraces wisdom. The objective of higher education is to inculcate such wisdom. It is wisdom that guides beyond material wealth in order to realise the fundamental objective of human pursuit.
While there are only 18 per cent of students from the present enrolment in higher education, this capacity would be enhanced to 30 per cent in 2020, he added.
Dr Raju added that education is the key to the task of nation building as well as to provide requisite knowledge and skills to build the nation.
After the UPA government implemented the RTE Act, about 23 crore children have been taking education since past three years, Dr Raju said added to provide quality of education was a commitment of the government and it was imperative to work for the nation building.
Dr Raju Called upon the young graduates, among whom some would pursue higher education and other would take up some professions should be transferred into intellectual bank balance all through your life.
Earlier, Karnataka Governor and varsity chancellor H R Bhardwaj conferred the honorary doctorate degrees to Indian aerospace scientist and fluid dynamicist Prof Roddam Narasimha, international cricketer Anil Kumble and freedom fighter and social worker M Srinivasiah and doctorate of laws degrees to T K Vishwanthan, secretary general of Lok Sabha on the occasion.
