JAMMU, May 25: Continuing his serious efforts to reach the aggrieved and vulnerable sections in Gandhi Nagar constituency amidst Covid-19 lockdown, JKPCC vice president Raman Bhalla today visited several areas of Gandhi Nagar constituency and listen to their grievances.
Expressing his grave concern on detection of deadly black-fungus cases in Jammu and Kashmir, former minister regretted that so-called preparations of authorities to deal with the worsening health situation has exposed with non-availability of anti-fungal drugs across J&K.
“The first case of Black fungus was detected one and half month ago in other parts of the country but authorities in J&K were waiting for the arrival of this deadly disease to start preparations”, Bhalla said and expressed his anguish that higher-ups in the Health Department have placed an order of the anti-fungal drug just a couple of days back.
Quoting some media reports, Bhalla said that higher-ups in the Health Department have admitted that anti-fungal drug is neither available in government hospitals nor in market. “While as two deaths due to this deadly disease have already been reported authorities have only placed an order for 500 vials of Amphotericin-B that is used in the treatment of a rare infection called Mucormycosis, or Black Fungus.”, the former minister said.
“What is the fun of declaring Mucormycosis or Black Fungus an epidemic under Section 2 of the Epidemic Disease Act 1897 when its drug is not available anywhere across J&K?”, Mr. Bhalla asked and rued that authorities are brazenly playing with the lives of the helpless people of J&K.
He said that BJP controlled administration was put to test at times of emergency and this dispensation was fully exposed for its failure to rise to the occasion. “While the doctors and para-medical staff needed logistical backup and support to deal the unprecedented situation, those at the helm of the affairs are organizing photo ops”, he said.
Bhalla said people of the Jammu region, who had voted BJP to power, were feeling cheated because their elected representatives were still nowhere in sight. He said casual approach of the administration can be gauged from the fact that health sector is completely crumbled during the second wave of the deadly Coronavirus due to non-availability of logistic.
