Protesting JU employees begin chain hunger strike

JAMMU, June 11: Further intensifying their ongoing protest for regularization of the Casual Labourers, the Jammu University Non-Gazetted Employees Union today began a chain hunger strike.
In the presence of all senior leaders and members of NGEU, Suraj Prakash, Banarsi Lal, Neelam Devi, Shamsher Bhagat and Bal Krishan sat on the day-long hunger strike this morning in front of the Old Administration Block.
At the venue of chain hunger strike, a number of Class-IV employees, Casual Labourers and Safai Karamcharis also staged a dharna and raised slogans in support of their demands.
On the occasion, NGEU president Krishan Chand criticized the JU authorities for their criminal silence over the plight of these Classs-1Vth, Casual labourers and Safai Karamcharis.
NGEU general secretary Vijay Kumar exhorted upon the protesters to remain united and continue their struggle with the same spirit and zeal for a logical conclusion. He said that many student organization and Trade Unions have come forward in their support.
He warned the JU authorities not to test the patience of the agitating employees who may resort to extreme step if there is no positive response on their demand.
PDP Trade Union leader Jasmeet Singh also visited the protest venue and appealed the Chancellor to personally look into the grievance of the employees.
Later, the protesting employees also marched towards the Vice-Chancellor’s Secretariat and held a vociferous protest there shouting slogans in support of their demands and against the JU administration.
