70-yr old man dies after vaccination

Fresh surge in cases, two test +ve in Channi school

SRINAGAR/jammu/ LEH, Mar 27: A 70-year-old man died hours after he was administered COVID-19 vaccine jab in Handwara area of North-Kashmir’s Kupwara district today.
Ghulam Mohammad Ganie son of Habibullah Ganie of Haril Mawer was inoculated at around 12.40 pm and died at around 3 pm after developing some complications.
A family member said that he had lunch after vaccination and took sheep for grazing. He felt dizziness and went home for having some water but fell unconscious and was taken to hospital where he was declared as brought dead.
Doctors said that he had no complications after vaccination and was sent home. “As mandated by the protocol we are supposed to keep a patient under observation for half an hour, and he didn’t show any signs during that time”, said a doctor “There may be some underlying reasons causing his death”, he added.
Kashmir today reported 196 COVID-19 positive cases as spike continues. With the fresh cases, the number of active cases has gone to 1,813.
Those who tested positive include 118 from Srinagar, 42 Baramulla, 19 Budgam, 3 from Pulwama, 6 Kupwara, 2 Anantnag, 3 Bandipora, 1 Kulgam and 2 from Shopian.
The number of cases in Kashmir division has reached 77,023 including 74,431 recoveries and 1,253 deaths.
The number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 1,813 including 1,339 from Kashmir division.
With 138 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 125,886, which is 97.07 percent of the total cases.
Meanwhile, Jammu district also witnessed spurt in COVID positive cases with 56 testing positive while the region reported a total of 75 cases including two from Higher Secondary School Channi Himmat.
Of 75 cases in the region, 56 were recorded in Jammu district, seven Kathua, four Ramban, three Samba, two each Doda and Poonch and one in Udhampur district.
As against 75 new cases, only 13 persons recovered from the virus, eight of them in Jammu district, two each Kathua and Samba and one in Doda district.
Jammu region now has 52661 Corona cases. Number of active positive cases has gone up to 474 as 51455 persons have recovered from the virus and there have been 732 casualties in the region.
The fatalities include 379 in Jammu district followed by 64 Doda, 57 Udhampur, 55 Rajouri, 53 Kathua, 41 Samba, 24 Poonch, 22 Kishtwar, 21 Ramban and 16 in Reasi district.
Two persons tested positive for the virus in Higher Secondary School Channi Himmat on the outskirts of Jammu City.
Students and staff in several educational institutions were today subjected to COVID testing.
Meanwhile, the UT of Ladakh today reported 17 new COVID positive cases including 16 in Leh and one in Kargil district.
The UT now has 111 active positive c ases, 106 in Leh and five in Kargil district.
