Academy pays tribute to Dogri activist Hemant Rao Sathe

JAMMU, May 14: Literary fraternity of Dogri language paid glowing tributes to poet, essayist and Dogri activist Hemant Rao Sathe who had played a catalytic role in the launching of  movement for mother tongue’s inclusion in the Eighth Schedule of Indian Constitutions.
Eminent Dogri poets and writers and close associates of Hemant Rao Sathe recounted his passion, zeal and relentless efforts for getting Dogri its due official status, while speaking during the Dogri poetic symposium which was organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages to pay homage to Dogri activist, at the K L Saigal Hall, here today.
Darshan Darshi, N D Jamwal, Mohan Singh and Shiv Dev Singh Susheel, in their tributes to Hemant Rao Sathe, especially referred to key role he had played in organizing the 1993. All India Dogri Writers Conference in which more than 300 delegates from different parts of the country had participated. As an activist he not only led many a dharnas and rallies to take up the cause of Dogri but also was part of the Dogri street theatre movement under the banner of Duggar Manch, they said.
Today’s poetic symposium marked for the introduction of new poetic talent was presided over by well known poet Darshan Darshi, while N D Jamwal and Mohan Singh were guests of honour.  The poets who participated in symposium included Mohan Singh ‘Ulfat’, Abhay Singh Bhadwal, Sapna Narainia, Rakesh Kumar Sarkar, Dr Padam Dev Singh, Surinder Singh Sagar, Madhu Sharma, Joginder Sharma, Tara Chand Kalandari, Chandu Bhau, Bansi Lal Sharma, Sham Talib, Puran Chand Bagotra, Mangal Das Dogra and Darshan Darshi.
Earlier Savita Bakshi, Additional Secretary, in her welcome address informed about Academy’s activities in the remote areas of Jammu province and sought co-operation of literary NGOs fro promotion of Art, Culture and Languages. Ashok Gupta, editor Dogri, was the overall in charge of the program which was conducted by Rattan Lal Basotra, Assistant Editor. Dr Neeru Sharma, Chief Editor, presented vote of thanks.
