SAMBA, Dec 20: Extending support to the ongoing struggle of farmers in Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir Jat Sabha has appealed Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to personally intervene and withdraw the three farms Bills being objected by the farmers across the country.
In a statement to the press, president, J&K Jat Sabha and former Minister Manjit Singh said that the farmers of the Union Territory stand with the agitating farmers and support their demand.
“The Jat community is basically dependent upon the farming. The division in the society should not be created or the name of caste, creed of religion when it is the concern of farmers,” said Manjit Singh.
He was concerned about the plight of the farmers who have been camping on the borders of Delhi and appealed to the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to personally intervene.
“It is not the issue of Punjab or Haryana. The farmers of J&K are equally concerned about these bills and demand withdrawal,” he said, adding that the Jat community has supported the Modi Government, but is disappointed with the bills which have no justification to continue.
Therefore, he said, the Government without further delay should roll-back for the common good of all.
“With these Bills, the cost of goods being consumed by the people, especially average and poor people will go out of their hands. The people are already overburdened with the sky-racketing prices of the essential commodities,” he said.
The former Minister said that the Central Government should hold talks with the leadership of the agitating farmers. “Instead of confronting with the farmers, the Government should come to the table and resolve the issue. The adamant attitude has stretched the agitation for no benefit. The farmers are compelled to stay on the NCR borders in this cold weather and it should not further linger on,” he said.
He added that the rights of the farmers must be protected as being guaranteed in the Indian Constitution. “Government should bring welfare schemes for the farmers, and those involved in farming so that the sinking economy can be strengthened,” he added.
