JAMMU, Dec 20: Model Code of Conduct (MCC) today came into force for the elections of office bearers for the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) being held on January 17, 2021.
According to the Receiver (Retd Judge, Suresh Sharma), appointed by the Court for elections and supervise other activities of the Chamber, no candidate shall host or arrange himself or through some one else parties, dinners, lunch etc for his canvassing. Moreover, canvassing be done so as to avoid bickering amongst members.
During this period up to elections, no hoardings, banners or posters of the candidates shall be displayed anywhere. However, a big banner with photographs of the candidates shall be displayed on the day of election, outside the premises, where election is to be conducted.
Press conferences by the candidates shall not be allowed, however, interviews and bytes to the media, both Print and Electronic, by the candidates are permissible. No advertisement or paid news in Print and Electronic media shall be allowed.
Besides above, door-to-door canvassing to the residences of the members shall not be permissible, however, same is allowed to shops, business establishments up to the restriction of two members, that is candidate and one more person. And no canvassing shall be allowed on the day of voting. In case of MCC violation, action may be taken against the violator.
It is to be recalled that contesting candidates had to file nominations up to December 17, 2020. Scrutiny of the papers will be held on December 27, 2020 while last date for withdrawal of nominations is January 6, 2021. The polling will be held on January 17, 2021.
